Evans B. Cooper, III, always dreamed of working in corporate America since he was a child. He enjoyed seeing the business professionals dressed in suits entering the then-Texas Commerce Bank (now JPMorgan Chase). He wanted to be like them, and he eventually was. 

But there were things that were not as transparent to him about corporate America. As Cooper journeyed through his corporate career, he realized that corporate America was not simply about nice suits, leather briefcases, and corporate meetings, but that it involved employee favoritism, collusion, and setups to maintain one’s job. Even more profound was his realization that these practices of mistreatment can produce lasting trauma – in many cases, unrecognized trauma.

Feeling that the words “Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder” was not effectively describing what he was experiencing in the workplace and after multiple terminations, Cooper coined the term “Post-Traumatic Unemployment Disorder” (PTUD). PTUD is not an official medical term, but it is a term that Cooper believes will help people understand corporate trauma and become aware that the emotional state they may be experiencing is the result of PTUD.

In Post Traumatic Unemployment Disorder, Cooper provides symptoms that he experienced throughout his professional career. He also presents one of many corporate battles through which he clawed his way. Post-Traumatic Unemployment Disorder goes on to discuss involving EEOC in a corporate battle, hiring a labor lawyer, negotiating severance, and learning about the services and guest speaker lectures he offers. Lastly, Post-Traumatic Unemployment Disorder ends with tips to help employees survive in corporate America.

As an undergraduate in college and a young professional, Cooper had nobody who explained corporate survival or corporate collusion and employee setup. Cooper’s mission is to help young professionals who are on a corporate track to understand the realities of corporate America, navigation through it, and deflect the trauma that it can cause.
